League Championships for Prep Girls, Varsity Boys

Congratulations to our varsity boys and prep girls hockey teams, both of whom came from behind to earn their respective league championships this past Sunday.

The prep girls led the way in the morning before a home crowd in their JWHL playoff final against North American Hockey Academy. Down 2-0 with 11 minutes left in the third period, the girls roared back with three unanswered goals.

Laurie Aubin opened it up with a short-handed goal assisted from Emilie Labonté, followed less than two minutes later by an unassisted goal by Zoe Charland. Finally with 3.7 seconds left, Aubin on the powerplay popped in a rebound by Charland.

This was the first league championship in only the prep girls' third season of competition and their first in the JWHL.

The final tally of the CPSHA varsity boys championship final at Ridley College Sunday afternoon looked like a baseball score, with the Spartans coming from behind to win 8-6.

Starting off down two in the first, Trofim Godichkin got Stanstead on the board to end the period 2-1. Charles-Eric Tremblay tied it to open the second, but UCC scored three to make it 5-2. Stanstead replied to end the period with goals by Karson Kerbes (SH) and Godochkin.

UCC scored quickly to open the third, putting Stanstead down 6-4. The Spartans then responded with four unanswered goals, the first two by Kamyl Chemrouk, the game-winner by Zackarie Michaud on an assist from Ryan Dwyer and the insurance goal by Jaxon Pierce.

This is the second CPSHA championship for the Spartans in three years.
