This speech is dedicated to Mr. Kulakowsky, who had a great impact on my experience at Stanstead College this year. This is a message he stood for, and something I have always struggled with.
This is already my fifth year at Stanstead, and I still can’t wrap my head around how insanely fast time passes by. I remember the day I first arrived here as if it were yesterday, the first friendships I made, the excitement I felt and having no idea what I was walking into. But now, all my best friends from then are gone, and it feels like we only spent a few weeks together, yet it was over three years.
Something Mr. Kulakowsky liked to remind me whenever we were on duty together is that what truly makes Stanstead College better than any other school is the invaluable connections we are able make here, the friendships, the bonds, and the experiences that has shaped who I am today. Every single one of you is immensely valuable to someone else, and it’s because of all of you that this school can be an experience of a lifetime.
Mr. Kulakowsky opened my eyes to just how fortunate we are to meet people from all over the world, to learn about so many different cultures, and to connect with people we would have never even met otherwise.
But as great as this is, it can’t last forever. Nothing ever does. Some of you are only here for a year. For some, this is your last. So don’t make the same mistake I’ve been making for years. Today I ask all of you to really take the time to enjoy this year to the fullest, whether you’re in Grade 7 and have years ahead of you or this is your last. Take your chances, be open, be confident, be yourself. And most importantly… be a SPARTAN!
