Teams, Club Top Donors to Prostate Cancer Cause

The Spartans U15 hockey team was the top fundraiser in this year’s edition of Soirées du Hockey Procure, a fundraiser to support men and their families dealing with prostate cancer.

Under the guidance of Director of Hockey Operations James Rioux and his Cancer Awareness Club, the team raised $5253 dollars, which was not only the highest raised in the under-18 category but first overall, a first in the campaign’s six years of existence.

For their efforts, the team will receive the Coupe Jean-Pagé as well as 12 hockey jerseys, a meal at Restaurant Gatto Matto and 20 tickets to the Laval Rocket vs the Toronto Marlies.

The creation and motivation behind the club was influenced by the death of Mr. Rioux's mother in June 2022 of ovarian cancer, while his father was also had prostate cancer. He passed away on February 16.

“Although our efforts remain small in the grand scheme of things, working with kids and doing our part to raise some money has been rewarding,” said Mr. Rioux. “The club members are passionate and genuine in their intentions. Everyone in the club has their personal story and reasons for membership. Our contribution has been a strong collective effort.”
