Stanstead Players Get the Gold

On Tuesday, Director of Hockey Operations James Rioux recognized five players and a coach who recently participated in IIHF World Championships.

from Sherbrooke, Que., was a member of Canada’s women’s U18 team, earning gold in a 3-0 win in the top division against Team USA in Vantaa, Finland. Rosalie had two assists in the tournament. A Grade 11 Varsity Girls Spartan, Rosalie is committed to the University of Wisconsin.

In the Division 1A championship in Budapest, Hungary, Berta Mozolai and Team Hungary claimed gold on home ice and her hometown. The team, undefeated is now promoted to the top division for 2026. A Grade 12 forward on the varsity team, Berta also had two assists during the tournament.

Also earning gold was Spartan mentor coach Mario Durocher who led Team Lithuania to gold as head coach at the men’s U20 Division 2A championship in Zegrab, Croatia.

Two other Spartans represented their countries at the U18 Women’s Division 1A level – Antonie Thume, Team Germany (SC prep), and Emma Lintner, Team Austria (SC varsity) – while Matylda Stepian (SC prep) represented Poland at the Division 1B level. Matylda had 4 goals and 3 assists to lead Poland to a second-place finish. Emma had 4 goals and 1 assist, while Antonia had 2 assists.

“For such a small school, it is truly impressive to have so many Spartans competing at such a high international level,” said Mr. Rioux. “Congratulations to all, and a special shout out to Rosalie, Berta and Coach Durocher on returning home with gold!”
