Our first game of the season was played on Saturday November 18 morning the first of a two-game exhibition series with St Laurent Academy (SLA) from Ottawa. After scoring the first three buckets of the game (and the first Spartan baskets of the season) the two teams each had a good run to carry the teams to a 16-16 first quarter score and a 32-31 score with SC lead at the half.
The Spartans then went on an impressive 17-2 run, based on great defense and a bunch of fast break lay-ups. The result was a 49-33 third quarter score in the Spartans favor. SLA managed to come back with their own 12-5 run in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the Spartans.
We won our inaugural game by a final score of 54-45. The Spartans were led by Vincent with 15 points; Chaz with 11; Daniel with 10; Shun and Bo with 6; and Will, Summer and Jeremy with 2 each. A good first game result, with lots of learning going on and most players getting minutes and showing excellent work ethic.
Game 2: November 18 - Home vs St Laurent Academy
The game scoring to start went back and forth for a first quarter score of 11-10 for SLA. The last couple of our first quarter scores plus a bunch of second quarter baskets led SC to an incredible 18-2 run. By half time SC led 24-13.
The Spartans continued to dominate with a 15-6 third quarter score, resulting in an overall score of 39-19 after three quarters. The 47-23 final score meant another great win for the Spartans.
Everyone played in this contest. The scoring leaders were Bo with 12 points; Daniel with 7; Chaz and Andrew with 6; Keita and Summer with 4; and Vincent, Luke, Jeremy and Lam with 2.
The Spartans competed in a home league game on November 21 against BCS. Unfortunately, the score ended in favour of our rivals, 42-43 BCS. Currently, the team is away to compete in the CAIS national tournament at LCC in Montreal.
