Varsity Hockey Players of the Month - January

Varsity Girls Offensive Player: Zoé Charland
Zoé had an excellent month of January, with  strong play and timely goal scoring pacing the Spartans to strong weekends in Ottawa, at home and in Minnesota. The Sherbrooke, Quebec, product's speed and hockey IQ caused several problems for the opposition, which she and her linemates, Isabelle Michaud and Charlie Pampalon, were able to capitalize. Along with Maélie Pion and Pénélope Lavoie, the five have formed a dangerous powerplay unit where Zoé's ability to make intelligent plays at the goal line has significantly increased the number of scoring chances and goals for the team while on the man advantage.

Varsity Girls Defensive Player: Pénélope Lavoie
Pénélope was a standout on the blueline for the Spartans in the month of January. Her dynamic play with and without the puck forces teams to always know when and where she is on the ice. In her own zone, Pénélope’s strength and toughness allows her to win seemingly every battle against opposing players, resulting in more time of possession for her and her team. With the puck, the Mont-St-Hilaire, Quebec, native's ability to read incoming pressure and her elite elusiveness allows her to control the play and create easy exits and entries for her team. Pénélope looks to continue her strong defensive play in Quebec City and Washington in the month of February.

Varsity Boys Offensive Players: Jacob Leblanc and Jack Carter
The month of January saw the team post a record of 6-3-1 and finish the month with only one loss in our final eight games. Success starts from the back, and the net has been shared by Jacob Leblanc and Jack Carter, who have both stepped up their play and given us solid goaltending day in and day out. Timely, big saves and a veteran presence have helped us to a very successful month. All nine games this month were also played on the road, making the success that much more impressive.

Varsity Boys Offensive Player: Kamyl Chemrouk
Kamyl Chemrouk continues to pace our offence with 89 points in 41 games. January was no exception to this. Some of his offensive highlights from the month include a 5-point night vs Albany Academy, a late tying goal vs Gunnery, an OT winner against KUA as well as the assist on the OT winner against Nichols School. Kamyl is always around the net and always looking to get the puck across the line.
