Classes for the 2024-25 Stanstead College school year began Friday after two days of orientation and preparation for new and returning students.
This year’s enrollment consists of 280 students – 201 boarders from 20 countries and 79 day students from the Eastern Townships and Vermont. There are 135 girls and 145 boys in Grades 7 through 12.
The 113 new students arrived on Wednesday and, after taking care of registration and moving into their residences, participated in orientation field games in the afternoon, followed by house meetings and activities in the evening.
Returning students arrived on Thursday, with more ice-breaker activities in the afternoon. Thursday concluded with a casino and carnival in and outside the student centre, with games of chance, bonfires and opportunities to meet new and old friends.
Following an advisee breakfast Friday morning and the first assembly of the year at the church, classes began.
Other opening week activities include house barbecues and house cheers Friday evening, Prefect Cup games Saturday afternoon, an opening dance and field games Sunday afternoon.
